Who we are

Ray Williams

Ray needs no introduction in this environment. Having joined the ranks and progressed to Captain, he spent 25 years in the Army the vast majority of which was in the Physical Training Corps. Ray won a gold medal for Wales in the 1986 Commonwealth Games while serving in the British Army. Since leaving the Army, he has been the National Weightlifting Coach and established an award-winning beacon social enterprise: the Holyhead & Anglesey Weightlifting and Fitness Centre (HAWFC).

Ray is an integral part of the Nifty60s management team. The programme is having a very positive impact on the lives of older residents in Anglesey, providing weekly functional fitness sessions across seven communities — and this number is soon to increase into double figures.

Ray’s motto is:

"Men's sana in corpore sano"  "A fit body creates an active mind."

Jodi Fielding

I'm Jodi and i'm one of the Nifty60s Instructors and a fitness instructor at HAWFC.  Fitness training has been a big part of my life since joining the Army back in 2000.  It was my love of physical training that led me to HAWFC 3 years ago when I joined the Ladies Olympic Weightlifting Class led by Ray and I have never looked back.  When I'm not training in the gym or coaching classes, I enjoy travelling with my husband and son, walking my crazy dog and meeting up with friends.

Level 3 qualified in Personal fitness and coaching.

Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting Coach.

Sam Henderson

Hi, I’m Sam Henderson — a 27-year-old former Team GB athlete in Olympic weightlifting, Royal Marines Commando veteran, and certified Personal Trainer.
My journey into the world of performance and discipline began early: I first stepped onto a weightlifting platform at age 7, and by 13 I was selected for my first international competition. By the time I retired from weightlifting at 18, I was a multiple-time British and Welsh champion in Olympic weightlifting.

After studying sports science in college, I chose a different path and joined the Royal Marines, where I served for seven and a half years. My time in the forces included multiple overseas deployments and gave me a deep foundation in resilience, leadership, and physical performance under pressure.

Today, I combine my elite athletic background and military experience to help others achieve their fitness goals. I’m a Level 2 Olympic Weightlifting Coach, Level 2 Gym Instructor, and Level 3 Personal Trainer — committed to delivering tailored training that builds strength, confidence, and discipline both in and out of the gym.

Jade Williams

Qualified Level 2 & 3 Gym Instructor and Personal Trainer, with over 10 years’ experience in coaching, client support, and care. Delivering group fitness classes at Ffitrwydd Môn, running the Nifty Sixties sessions at HAWFC Gym, and working with clients both online and in-person. Passionate about inclusive, empowering fitness for younger and older adults. Currently completing a Level 4 Nutrition qualification and certified as a Level 1 PowerWave Instructor.

Wyn Griffiths

At 64 years "young", I bring a lifetime of experience, discipline and passion to the world of fitness.

My journey began with Royal Navy service, where I developed the resilience and structure that continue to shape my approach to training today.

I joined Holyhead and Anglesey Weightlifting and Fitness Centre (HAWFC) 13 years ago, when I realised that my own fitness levels needed improving even though I was(and still hold) a 2nd Dan black belt in Judo! Since then and under the guidance of Ray Williams (Commonwealth Games Olympic Weightlifting Gold medalist and former Welsh Weightlifting National Coach), I'm a qualified Level 3 Personal Trainer, Level 2 Gym Instructor, Concept2 and British Rowing Indoor Rowing Instructor, British Weightlifting Level 1 Assistant Coach, a Blaze Pod Instructor and British Judo Association "Finding Your Feet" instructor.

In 2022, I proudly achieved 1st place in the 500m Welsh Indoor Rowing Championships, along with 4th place in the 500m Scottish Open Indoor Rowing Championships and on 31st May 2025, was a member of the Diamonds Over 60's Indoor Rowing Team setting a New World Record by rowing 2.957 Billion metres in the 2024 to 2025 season, proving that performance and progress have no age limit.

Currently, I work as a Functional Training Coach helping to deliver the Nifty60's programme across Anglesey, which is focused on the older population, helping clients improve mobility, strength and confidence, through safe, effective and age appropriate training.

I understand firsthand, the importance of staying active later in life and I'm here to show that it's never too late to move better, feel stronger and live healthier, encouraging all our "Athletes" to be consistent with their training and to make that "lifestyle change".

Howard's Story

I'm 67 years old. I'm a cancer survivor, and without the Nifty60's, I wouldn't have put on the muscle mass that I have. I feel so much better mentally and the social aspect of the club is amazing. You get to meet some amazing people.
